The Cardinals. The team that has always been that team that we should beat, but they end up giving us fits. They are annoying. Like last season. With Skelton at QB? I thought that was going to be a win for us. Nope, I was wrong. And the 2008 NFC Championship game? Yeah, let’s just forget that one ok.
But this year is a new year against our old former NFC East rivals. Not only is it the first time that my Eagles play in Arizona since that forgettable 2008 NFC Championship game, it’s the first shot that we get a shot at Kevin Kolb. He hasn’t been any better in Arizona than he was in Philly. Kolb was supposed to be the next big QB for the Eagles after McNabb. The future. Never happened. Similar situation in Arizona. They trade for him hoping he’s the answer at QB for years to come. He has a great WR in Fitzgerald to really help him out. Nope, he’s just as inconsistent in Arizona as he was in Philly. Losing his starting job to Skelton off and on.
Now, when Kolb was an Eagle I was judgmental of him even at that time. I didn’t feel he had what it took to be a starting QB in the NFL. Especially for my Eagles. Sure he had some good games. But he had more bad moments then good. I took some flack from other Eagles fans as well for my opinion about Kolb. But so far I’ve been right. And my opinion is still the same now as it was then. Only difference now is Kolb is being overpaid and over valued in Arizona. But, that’s not my worry anymore.
Enough about Kolb. I’m excited to see Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie against his former team. Not too many people seem to be talking about his return to Arizona as they are about Kolb getting his shot against the Eagles. But how great would it be to see DRC get a pick six from Kolb in his former home field against a team that gave up on him? I would love that.
While this seems to be a reunion game for two players that’s fun to talk about some topics remain the same for the Eagles. The top priority for the Eagles is on offense to not turn the ball over. The Eagles have been fortunate in the first two games by losing the turnover battle and still winnning games. That’s not going to last forever. That has to be corrected. And it has to happen now. Vick needs to play smarter. I can only imagine what our two wins would have looked like without all those turnovers.
So in all I expect the Eagles defense to get after Kolb and rattle him early. I think that will set the tone for the game. If that happens then the game is won for us. Kolb is like Eli Manning in that sense when it comes to playing the Eagles. Rattle him early and the mental battle is lost by him. I expect us to leave Arizona 3-0.
