It wasn’t pretty by any means. Very sloppy play on offense. For the most part Vick looked horrible. Vick threw a career high four INT’s today.Desean Jackson was pretty quiet. Shady should have touched the ball more because let’s face it, the Browns did all they could just to contain him when he did have the ball. The offensive line was having the case of dirty laundry thrown on them while King Dunlap needed TE help because he had a hard time blocking the guy that’s in front of him who’s usually smaller than him today.
The defense looked great today. Causing four turnovers. All four of which were interceptions (DRC 2, Coleman 2). Demeco Ryans looked like the leader on the field that we have needed since Brian Dawkins left. He was great against the run. The Eagles defense as a whole was dominant against the run. Holding the 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, rookie RB Trent Richardson had a hard time getting anything going today. He was held to 39 yards on 19 carries. That’s 2.1 yards per carry avg. Nnamdi showed good hustle and played a lot better in coverage. DRC looked like the guy from Arizona that we expected last season. All good signs on defense.
I’m happy we won. I’ll take a win however they come. Good or bad, it’s a win. That doesn’t mean I’m satisfied with how they won. And pretty much all of my complaints are on the offensive side of the ball. They were just bad. A lot of calls were made. Some weren’t that should have been. But overall I think the replacement officials did a decent job today. No, they weren’t perfect, yes they could have done better. But no blame there from me.
If the Eagles think they will go far this year and accomplish the ultimate goal then they have a ton of work to do. The Eagles were expected to beat the Browns pretty convincingly today. Instead, they had a hard time against a team who has been historically bad. If the Eagles expect to compete for a Super Bowl they need to get it together now. Next week is Baltimore. A far more superior opponent than the Browns. Start with not turning the ball over and cut down on the penalties. Oh, and improve on containing the blitz.
