Something I’m considering doing is a weekly “notes” blog after each Eagles game. Just notes of my opinions of how the game went as a team and point out individual players, good or bad. And since this is the preseason I thought I would give my idea a live “game action” test. So here it goes.
LB Mychal Kendricks is a beast in the making I feel. His name was called numerous times while he was in the game. Six tackles, three solo and one for a loss. He is a star in the making.
RB Bryce Brown is another rookie that excites me. Nice carries for 51 yards. His long being a 27 yarder. He’s making it hard for Polk.
QB Nick Foles is developing into a really good QB. He got a chance to get into the game a little earlier then Andy Reid planned because of a rib injury to starting QB Michael Vick. He filled in good completing 18 of 28 passes for 217 yards and 2 TD’s. His 1 INT was clearly a bad decision that he should have checked down on but it’s only his second time stepping onto an NFL field. I expect him to learn from the mistake. If he keeps up his great play though then it makes me feel a lot more comfortable if Vick does in fact go down with injury (knock on wood!). It’s only two preseason games, but like rookie LB Kendricks, it’s hard to not be excited about these guys based on the last two preseason games and how they performed in training camp.
Speaking of starting QB Michael Vick, who has endured injury in each of the last two games. Yesterday being the more concerning of the two. As much as I am excited about Foles’s development I’m not ready to see him step in just yet to fill in for an injured Michael Vick. The Eagles go as far as Michael Vick takes us.
Andy Reid and DT Cullen Jenkins had a “spat” on the sidelines during the game for all the camera’s to catch. Reid was frustrated with all of the penalties that the defense was getting called on. Reid has done this before in the past. But this is the first time a player has literally stood up and challenged Reid back. Of course the media might make a big deal out of this but I think it’s already a done situation. I’m not concerned at all. Jenkins is a veteran leader on this team. Andy Reid does have the respect of every player in the locker room and visa verse.
LT King Dunlap seems to be performing really good at his new position. Just keep down on the penalties and the QB off his back then I’m a happy camper with the King. I honestly never thought I would say anything remotely close to that at one point.
